Cathi Walton a work collogue invited me and my family with to Pongola Game Reserve. She knew I love fishing and said we must try fishing for tigers. A committee was formed and she and her bridge club planned the visit.
What an amazing location. The game reserve is on both sides of the main road and borders on the Jozini Dam. It is a birding paradise. We saw Rhino`s and a variety of buck.
We stayed at Leeukop. (This camp is normally used by hunters in the winter). It consist of Comfortable chalets, a big lapa, a big kitchen and is ideal for 10 – 14 people. It also has a swimming pool.
We made turns and braaied in the evenings. We clubbed in and chartered a boat for the day. The bigger boat can take upto 22 people.
We fished and was assisted by a friendly game ranger. My family and myself all caught a Tiger Fish. What an amazing trip. We saw a great variety of water birds with highlights: Open-billed Stork, Fish Eagle, Goliath Heron and Flamingo`s.
