2023/03/03 Arboretum Visit

Richard Johnstone (a Friend) invited me to join him for a day of birding at the Weir. We started at the weir and walked all the way through Forelle Alley to Richards Bay Primary School. This is a prime spot for birding. It is easy in good weather to see 40 bird species or more. He is one of the most proficient birders that I know. His knowledge of bird sounds is amazing. We saw plenty birds, enjoyed the various dragonflies. Richard has loves dragonflies and has become quite an expert on the Zululand Dragonfly species.

On our return we decided to pop in at the sandbank and ended our birding day at the Richards Bay Caravan Park to add the waders. What an amazing day!

Special bird species seen or heard: African Paradise Flycatcher, Black Sparrowhawk, Brown Snake Eagle, Dark-backed Weaver, Green malkoha, Lemon Dove and Narina Trogon.

Here are a few photos we took during this trip:

Birds Species (seen or heard): 73

Dragonflies Species: 12

Butterflies Species : 8
